Panning

Panning technique is used to photograph moving subjects to suggest fast motion. The subjects will appear to focus while the background looks blurry, this gives feeling of movement.

The exact exposure required depend on the speed at which the subject is moving, the shutter speed must be long enough to allow the background to blur due to the movement.

for example:
the picture of mother and child on a motorcycle, the lenght of the exposure is 1/30s,F/5.6, iso200, while when photographing a man cycling i use 1/15s, F/5.6, iso 100.

Photographing moving subjects with panning technique can be a lot of fun but can also be quite frustrating.  interesting isn't it?
